How to create a magical morning routine

Creating a morning routine is one of the best things we can do for our overall health and wellbeing. The way we set up our mornings is the way we set the tone for the entire day. And that´s why is so important to start your day in a happy, healthy, positive and calm way.

I know…life can be really busy sometimes. I used to wake up in a rush throughout all my school years and later to go to work. I didn’t have enough time to take a proper breakfast (I used to microwave a glass of milk with chocolate and I wouldn´t even sit to drink it!). When I started embracing a healthy and natural lifestyle, I slowly started to wake up earlier to connect with myself, meditate, drink water with lemon and prepare a wholesome breakfast. And I can’t express how my life changed for better since I created my morning routine and started to waking up for myself and for what makes me happy.

It really doesn’t matter how much time you have, it can be 2 hour or just 30 minutes, as long as you prioritize yourself every single day and start the day in a mindful way. When you take the time to take care of yourself in the morning you are able to show up to the world as the best version of yourself and everything else in your day will fall into place.

Here is how my magical morning routine looks like now if I have 2 hours:

  • 7am – Wake up, go to the bathroom and wash my face
  • 7:05am – Prepare and drink a warm water with lemon
  • 7:10am – Yoga at home, outdoor beach run or both
  • 8:10am – Meditation, gratitude and setting intentions for the day
  • 8:30am – Dry body brush, oil pulling, shower, brush my teeth, spread coconut oil on my body, cleanse and hydrate my face and get dressed.
  • 8:50am – Prepare my breakfast (usually a green smoothie!)
  • 9:00am – Turn on my phone and computer to start working

If I only have 30 minutes:

  • 7am – Wake up, go to the bathroom and wash my face
  • 7:05am – Prepare and drink a warm water with lemon
  • 7:10am – A few yoga stretches, meditation, gratitude and setting intentions for the day
  • 7:20am – Shower, brush my teeth, spread coconut oil on my body, cleanse and hydrate my face and get dressed.
  • 7:30am – Grab a smoothie that I made the night before, and have it on the go!

Now it´s your time to find what works for you and manifest your own magical morning routine:

Step 1: Define a time you would ideally like to wake up every morning. It´s very important to try to wake up and go to sleep at the same time every single day.

Step 2: Define how much time you can dedicate to yourself in the morning. It can be 15, 20, 30, 60, 90, 120 minutes. Remember, that it doesn´t matter how long you have as long as you dedicate some time for yourself every single day.

Step 3: Think about which activities you love, light you up and you would love to incorporate in your magical morning routine. Here are some ideas:

  • Warm water with lemon
  • Watch the sunrise
  • Yoga
  • Simple stretches
  • Gym class
  • Walk in nature
  • Outdoor run
  • Guided meditation
  • Praying
  • Breathing exercises
  • Write down tree things you are grateful for
  • Set intentions for the day
  • Journaling
  • Read an inspirational book
  • Listen to music
  • Repeat affirmations
  • Dry body brush
  • Oil pulling
  • Daily beauty routine
  • Make a delicious healthy breakfast (lots of recipes here)

Step 4: According to how much time you have and which activities you want to do, write down your perfect morning routine with how long you want to spend in each activity. You can even create one with your non-negotiable activities for the days you only have 15 minutes and another with extra activities for when you have more time.

Step 5: Add “Magical Morning Routine” to your calendar and commit to it for at least 2 weeks.

Step 6: Remember to go with the flow of life. Things happen and sometimes we won´t be able to follow every single step. Just remember to show up for yourself every day, even if it´s simply being grateful for one more day! Be open to adapt your routine without feeling guilty.

Top tip: Try to not turn on your phone until you are done with your morning routine. When we wake up and immediately start reading emails and messages we start our day feeling stressed and completely disconnected with ourselves. This is a sacred time for you to connect with your body, mind and soul!

Hope this post can inspire you to create your own magical morning routine, starting the day for yourself and doing the things you absolutely love so you can live a happier and healthier life. I would love to hear from you, so please share how your morning routine looks like in the comments below!

Love,
Inês
